One milestone of the Project-200 policy thrust of this university’s administration of Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS - the 6th Substantive Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka in Nigeria – is the establishment of the Sahelian Institute for Bamboo Research and Entrepreneurship Development (SIBRED) as the First University–based Bamboo and Rattan Research Directorate outside the Continent of Asia.
Vision: SIBRED is an internationally leading, inter-disciplinary, science-based and amost resourceful international centre of excellence that collaborates with global stakeholders.
Goal: This bamboo-based value chain development Institute aims to build applied research excellence and knowledge for sustainable innovations and entrepreneurship education and development, green economy, bamboo for energy, policy advocacy and institution buildings in countries of the Sahelian Africa together with their bordering neighbouring countries.

Promoting Bamboo research for industrial innovation and enterprenuership.
